Commonly referred to as ajwain, this aromatic herb belongs to the Apiaceae (parsley) family and is widely used in traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda and Unani. The oil is typically obtained through steam distillation of crushed carom seeds. It is highly concentrated and contains significant levels of thymol, a bioactive compound responsible for its strong antimicrobial, antifungal, carminative, and digestive-stimulating properties.
